Evaluation Rubrics

The competition judges will be using the following criteria to evaluate each presentation, using a scale of 1 to 4 points:

           1 = developing      2 = good      3 = proficient      4 = outstanding

 

1. Science:

  • Demonstrated the subject's relevance in the introduction

  • Provided a background of related work in their field suitable to bring the non-expert "up to speed"

  • Clearly presented the research design

  • Had conclusions that followed from results of study

 

2. Communication:

  • Presentation or poster organization flows well

  • Slides or poster visuals are well organized and clear

  • Graphics and text are professional quality and free of mistakes

  • Effective eye contact with audience or attendees; student speaks clearly and is easy to understand

 

3. Level:

  • In your experience, is the student’s work is appropriate to their present status as an undergraduate, master’s student, or Ph.D. student?

1 = well below average

2 = average for their student class

3 = above average 

4 = well above average / outstanding
