MIDCONTINENTAL JOURNAL OF ARCHAEOLOGY (ISSN 0146-1109) publishes original papers on the archaeology of the region between the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Plains, from the Boreal Forests to the Gulf of Mexico, and on closely related subjects. MCJA is published biannually in April and October by the Midwest Archaeological Conference, Inc., and printed in the United States of America by Altramira Press.

MCJA is indexed in Anthropological Literature: An Index to Periodical Articles and Essays; Arts, Social Sciences, and Historical Abstracts; and America: History and Life.

  • All manuscript material must be typed double-spaced on one side of the sheet only, in Times New Roman 12pt font.
  • Use white bond or copy paper only.
  • Submit an original plus three copies.
  • Include an abstract of less than 150 words that specifically refers to text material.
  • Footnotes are not permitted.
  • Text citations are set in parentheses, e.g. (Author 2003:359).
  • References are listed alphabetically by author and in ascending chronological order.
  • Number all figures consecutively and provide a caption for each.
  • Tables should be typed on separate pages, numbered sequentially, and given headings.
  • Upon acceptance, all papers must be provided on a CD in either Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect .
  • All artwork must be submitted as JPG files (for gray scale images or photographs, 300 dpi minimum, 5 inches wide) or as TIFF files (for line drawings, 300 dpi minimum, 1200 dpi strongly preferred, 5 inches wide).

MCJA back content soon to be on JSTOR

On May 15, 2010, the MAC, Inc. signed an agreement that will make the entire back content of MCJA available through JSTOR. There will be a three-year “moving wall” to protect the value of your current subscription.

Although some back content of MCJA has been available on the web, JSTOR will provide the first complete archive of high quality images in the original published format.

MCJA content is not yet on-line, but you can learn more about JSTOR at jstor.org.
