The 9th annual Indiana Archaeology Month will be a state-wide celebration during September. The many events for the public have the theme "Preserving Indiana's Past." This year's commemorative poster focuses on the different ways that archaeologists preserve information about Indiana's past and highlights the office of the Indiana State Archaeologist, the DHPA. Through our work, the work of the many archaeologists working in our state, and the support of the public, we will continue to learn about the rich and varied cultures that make up Indiana's past, and in many ways have helped shape the future. The latest news about Indiana Archaeology Month, including a calendar of events, orders for posters and T-shirts, can be found at: http://www.in.gov/dnr/historic/archeomonth.html or call the Indiana DHPA at 317/232-1646. In 2003, over 5,400 people attended Indiana Archaeology Month activities, and we hope that as many or more will enjoy the many opportunities that are going to be available during this coming September.
Short sleeved, natural colored T-shirts with the above image will be available in sizes M -XXL. Available from the Indiana DHPA for a very affordable price (5 Bucks!), while supplies last. The Indiana Archaeology News E-Newsletter is now available from the office of the Indiana State Archaeologist. Past topics have included: regulations and rules, public outreach announcements, nominating archaeological sites to the National Register, and more. To receive this new electronic newsletter, plus other updates regarding archaeological topics, contact Amy Johnson, Archaeology Outreach Coordinator mailto:ajohnson@dnr.in.gov.
