2003 Secretary's Report

MIDWEST ARCHAEOLOGICAL CONFERENCE, INC.
Secretary’s Report
OCTOBER 18, 2003

Elections: Chris Ellis and Mark Seeman were thanked for their willingness to be candidates for the Executive Officer position being vacated by Terry Martin. Ballots were sent to 213 MAC members, with 91 ballots returned, a high voting rate. Five ballots lacked signatures on the envelope and so were not eligible for tally. Mark Seeman was announced as the new Executive Officer. Vote tallies and the actual ballots will be kept for a one year period by the Secretary. Any member wishing more information about the election may contact the Secretary.

Correspondence: The correspondence records of MAC, Inc. are being placed in a notebook, and will reflect formal correspondence and contracts, rather than informal emails or notes from phone calls.

The MAC website (www.indiana.edu/~mwarch) was initiated with hosting provided by Indiana University, until MAC has the financial resources to support its own domain and server expenses. Scott Brish and Jamie Kelly contributed immensely to our first website development. Members are urged to use this website as a newsletter for various types of communications: by sending in news releases or links to websites providing news about their research; announcements of meetings, workshops, publications, museum exhibits, etc., of interest to members; news of transitions of our colleagues; abstracts of dissertations in Midwestern archaeology; membership and dues information; information about MCJA, plus indexes by author and title; MCJA abstracts 1996-present; abstracts from meetings beginning in 2002; and plans for future meetings.

Alternative designs for the MAC logo were developed by Jamie Kelly and submitted to the Executive Committee which chose four designs for consideration by the membership at the 2003 meeting. The chosen design will be incorporated into stationary and the website.

Cheryl Ann Munson
Secretary
